Frequently Asked Questions

What is Leadership TAR?

Leadership TAR (Tennessee Association of REALTORS®) is a training program that identifies emerging leaders in the state and local associations, encourages them through retreat-based instruction, and helps them sharpen their skills and personal goals, for the future of our association and profession.

Who can apply for future classes?

Any of TAR’s 29,000+ members may apply!

How are participants selected?

Applications must be submitted to TAR by January 15th of each year. An anonymous committee then reviews all submissions and selects approximately 10 participants for this exclusive program.

What can I expect to learn from the program?

Participants will work together in a combination of individual study and group sessions at retreats to build their skills and self-awareness, build a network with their peers, and learn more about the issues and challenges facing the REALTOR® organization and the real estate industry.

When did the program begin?

The first Leadership TAR program began in the early 1990s. In 2003, the program was redesigned to better suit the needs of our ever-changing profession. Since then, over 50 students have graduated from the program and are now serving their local, state, and national REALTOR associations in various capacities.

When and where are the retreats?

Retreats are during the spring and summer months, usually in Middle Tennessee. Past retreats have been in Smithville, TN, at Evin’s Mill and in Nashville. The class schedule of retreat dates is provided on the application form.

How much does it cost?

Student tuition for the program in 2008 is $745. TAR makes a significant investment in this program and supplements this tuition to cover actual program costs. Tuition covers training, instructional materials, meals and overnight accommodations for the three in-state retreats, as well as the registration fees for both the TAR Spring Conference and TAR Annual Convention. Check with your broker and/or local association for possible scholarships.

Who facilitates the retreats?

TAR’s own Pug Scoville oversees the program and provides some instruction. Memphis Area Assn. of REALTORS past President Gary Blume and Chattanooga Assn. of REALTORS past President Steve Champion will facilitate two of the retreats in 2008.  Instructors may vary from year to year.

How do I apply?

Applications are invited from REALTORS across the state each year.  The application deadline is January 15. If you have any questions, you can also contact Pug Scoville at the TAR office: 615.321.1477 (local to Nashville) or 877.321.1477 (Toll Free).

When are the applications due?

The application deadline in 2008 was January 15!
