Class of 2004

Cathy Armstrong, ABR, CRB, CRS, GRI, SRES
Principal Broker, President
Heritage Homes at Sixth Street, Inc.

"I gained a better understanding of how associations work.  There are all types of personalities involved in day to day operations of an association.  The ability to be able to work with different people for the good of the organization should be the ultimate goal of all officers and directors.  Not only did the year I spent in Leadership TAR help me with my realtor positions, it also has given me knowledge to use in other aspects of my life. We had a great year, made new friends, that will be friends forever.  We read a great book The Serving Leader a great book to remind you of your role in the scheme of things and how to accomplish goals you establish for yourself and your company or association."

"I am currently the President of the TN/VA Regional MLS which has a current membership of over 1700.  Most recently, I was elected as a County Commissioner from Sullivan County (the 6th largest county in Tennessee).  I was elected in August 2006 for a four year term.  I serve on the Insurance Committee, Executive Committee, and Beverage Board.  I was also privileged to represent Sullivan County on a trip to our Sister City in Siguatepeque, Honduras in June. "

Carla Kennedy

I gained friendships and more confidence in my leadership skills from this program.  I am currently working for State of Franklin Real Estate in Johnson City as well as Eastern Eight Community Development Corporation (a private non-profit organization helping people with lower incomes get into affordable housing). In 2006 I was President of WCR Tri Cities Chapter."

"Leadership TAR helped me have the confidence and the belief that I could lead others. More importantly, I learned what a Level 5 Leader is and how she behaves in a leadership role.... serving those in lower ranks, taking responsiblity for the "not so great stuff", allowing others to get the kudos for the "good stuff", etc. We had some amazing speakers and Pug was so fabulous!"

"I think TAR Leadership is a great program.  Besides giving knowledge of TAR, it gives you much insight into what makes a truly good leader.  I don’t think I would have considered leading my association without having been a part of this program.  Pug has done a great job in encouraging us all to reach our potential.  Most of what I gained was in personal growth.  I did learn a lot more than I previously knew about what it takes to be a good leader but was also able to look into myself and see that I could achieve anything I really wanted to."

"I am currently President of NETAR ( 3 members of my TAR Leadership class are President this year).  I have also been politically active in the campaigns of our city commissioners and been on several city committees."

Kelli Paul

"I don't believe in coincidences so TAR Leadership was timed just right for me. I was President Elect of my association and did not feel qualified for the Job. TAR leadership gave me the skills and the Confidence as well as a platform in which I could proceed as president.Since my presidency and TAR Leadership I went on to Initiate a Leadership Program at our Local Association River Counties. Since then we have had more than 15 Graduates who now will go on to be in leadership roles in our Association. So I feel TAR Leadership gave me a chance to give back."

"I now am the Training Director for my company provided Monthly and one on one Training on various subjects to my fellow agents. We all learn together."

Ivan Tilley

"I gained a valuable insight into cooperation and networking with colleagues across the state. I feel that through Leadership I have built friendships that are ongoing, which have allowed me to further my knowledge of TAR and NAR."

"I am currently President Elect of Northeast Tennessee Association of Realtors, President of WCR, TAR Director, was elected Realtor of the Year in 2006 by WCR,  I am on the TAR Convention Committee and was the Chair of the TAR Commercial Forum."
