Leadership TAR
Leadership development is absolutely essential for the future of our associations and profession!
Through Leadership TAR, the Tennessee Association of REALTORS prepares emerging REALTOR leaders in the state, encourages them through retreat-based instruction, and helps them sharpen their leadership skills and personal goals. Participants work together in retreats to build their leadership skills and self-awareness, to join and build a network of peers across the state, and to learn more about the issues and challenges facing the REALTOR organization and the real estate industry.
Completion of all three program retreats is required for recognition as a Leadership TAR Graduate!

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Leadership TAR?
Leadership TAR (Tennessee Association of REALTORS®) is a retreat-based training program that prepares emerging leaders in the state and local associations, encourages them through retreat-based instruction, and helps them sharpen their skills and personal goals, for the future of our association and profession.
REMEMBER: Completion of all three Leadership TAR Retreats is required for recognition as a "Leadership TAR Graduate". While we strongly encourage participants to complete all three retreats in the same year with others in their class, this is not always possible for some, who may need a couple of years to do so. Members who complete all three Retreats will be awarded a Leadership TAR pin and certificate, and will be recognized at the Directors Meeting of the Tennessee Association of REALTORS at TAR's Annual Convention.
A couple of networking "mixers" for Leadership TAR Alumni and participants are held each year, usually off-site in conjunction with TAR's Spring Conference and Annual Convention.
Who can register for the retreats?
Any TAR member may register for Leadership TAR. Registration for the program is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Enrollment at each retreat is, however, limited to ensure a good retreat experience for everyone, so early registration is encouraged.
What can I expect to learn from the program?
Participants work together in a series of two-day retreats to build their skills and self-awareness, to build a network with their peers, and to learn more about the issues and challenges facing the REALTOR® organization and the real estate industry.
When did the program begin?
The first Leadership TAR program began in the early 1990s. In 2003, the program was restarted to better address the needs of our ever-changing profession. Since then, over 75 students have graduated from the program and are now serving their companies as well as their local, state, and national REALTOR associations in various capacities.
When and where are the retreats?
Retreats are scheduled during the spring and summer months, in Middle Tennessee. All three 2010 retreats were held at Montgomery Bell State Park, approximately 30 miles west on Nashville. The class schedule of retreat dates is provided on the application form.
How much does it cost?
Retreats are priced as affordably as possible, and fees for the 2011 program will be announced later this year. The program is sponsored by both TAR and TREEF, the Tennessee Real Estate Educational Foundation. The registration fee covers the training and any instructional materials, while meals and overnight lodging at the retreats are the responsibility of each participant. [Participants may check with their broker and/or local association for possible scholarships.]
Who facilitates the retreats?
TAR’s own Pug Scoville oversees the program and co-facilitates the retreats with Memphis Area Assn. of REALTORS past President Gary Blume in 2010. Instructors may vary from year to year.
